The SDGS
SDG 1

SDG 3
Good Health
& Well Being

SDG No Poverty aims to end global poverty of all dimensions. While this falls under our vision of nurturing a girl child, specific efforts and targeted interventions are necessary to tackle the poverty perpetuated by the lack of menstrual hygiene facilities, life skills and education. Therefore, our aim is to ensure affordable and accessible menstrual hygiene products, improve sanitation facilities, promote education and awareness, and break the societal taboos surrounding menstruation.
SDG 3 provides a framework to address various global health challenges and ensure good health for all. According to this goal, YSA's targeted initiatives and partnerships focus specifically on promoting menstrual health and fostering a sense of well-being in those affected by period poverty. We do this by ensuring access to affordable and sustainable menstrual products, establishing educational opportunities, and nurturing young girls and women through counselling.
SDG 5
Gender
Equality

This SDG stands at the core of our work in addressing the broader issues that contribute to period poverty among poor young girls and women. By addressing the root causes of gender inequality and working towards empowering women and girls, we can create an environment where period poverty is progressively reduced, allowing girls to manage their menstruation with dignity and without barriers.
SDG 8

SDG 10
Reduced
Inequalities

SDG 13
Climate
Action

SDG 8 aims to foster sustainable economic growth, and promote job creation. Our work focuses on empowering girls affected by period poverty who have left school and those in school. Through skill development programs like sewing, YSA fosters decent work, economic growth, and the empowerment of young women. We also recognize education as vital for achieving these goals. By providing scholastic materials, we ensure girls have access to quality education.
The SDG of Reduced Inequalities paves the way to attaining political, economic and social equality. Our organisation is committed to contributing to this goal by aiming to tackle period poverty through the implementation of specific programs and policies at local levels. Our objective is to end period poverty effectively and ensure the well-being of young girls specifically in the disadvantaged communities of rural Uganda that face additional barriers to good menstrual health, hygiene and education.
Sustainability is one of our core values at YSA which is why we are aligned with climate action efforts by shifting to reusable alternatives. Typically, menstruation involves the use of disposable pads, which have a detrimental environmental impact. By providing reusable pads to young women and girls, we contribute to reducing the monthly waste generated from disposable pads, lessening the overall environmental footprint associated with menstrual hygiene products.
